Corrugated Board Moisture
Eliminate Corrugated Board Curl
In the corrugating industry, corrugated board moisture control is critical during the manufacturing process. Being such a porous material, corrugated board can easily become too wet or dry wasting manufacturers time and money. Additionally, by controlling moisture, both top and bottom face material corrugators can eliminate curl. With the help of industry partners and 40 years of knowledge, MoistTech has developed the IR-3000 moisture sensor which is ideally suited to measure the corrugated board moisture levels in the board corrugating process while improving manufactures product quality and lowering their energy costs.
Installation
By installing the MoistTech corrugated board moisture sensor online, a manufacturer can continuously monitor the process and can control the corrugated board moisture content in liner, medium or face locations, either manually or automatically. To accurately measure the corrugated board moisture levels, the sensor should be installed over or angled, relative to the web that is transporting the board.
Environment
In corrugated board plants, the sensor is often installed in extreme heat locations typically near a pre-heater. In this situation, it is necessary to protect the sensor and should be installed in an insulated box containing vortex cooler. Furthermore, the environment in board plants can be very moist. In this circumstance, an air-purge should be installed to prevent condensation collecting on the corrugated board moisture sensor’s optical window.
Benefits of Corrugated Board Moisture Control
- Improved Product Quality
- Lower Energy Costs
- Reduced start-up Times
- Less Waste
- 100% Product Inspection
- Less Downtime
MoistTech is very experienced with the requirements in the corrugated board moisture control process. Our sensor calibrations, measurement wavelengths, algorithms and sensor optical requirements are pre-set at the factory. Typical accuracy is about ±0.1% moisture. Typical analog range is 0-10% moisture and up to as much as 40%, subject to application. The outputs can be adjusted to optimize PLC or recording requirements.
